Property bargains are less common than they were a few years ago but they do exist and if you are patient and have an eye for a good deal then you might still be lucky if you are looking for a house; especially if you are prepared to put a little time and effort into doing it up.
There are quite a few properties on the market which need quite a lot of work doing to them due to the fact that they were previously owned by elderly people who had not done any major work to them for the last thirty or so years.
When the house passes to their heirs or an equity release scheme, the new owners are often keen to sell fairly quickly to cash in the value of the house and this is where you can often find a good deal. The houses are often structurally sound but decorated in a way that is definitely not to the modern taste and so they can be on the market for some time.
This can be the time to pick up a bargain, but you have to make sure that you know what you are getting into otherwise you could end up spending far more than your budget allows.
You can do the job much more cheaply if you are prepared to do at least the donkey's work yourself.
